OMG! Who in their right mind wants to call 100 people who don’t want to hear about a business opportunity? (Actually, I know someone who LOVES to do that. Thank God for Caller ID. I can avoid his calls and not hurt his feelings! He’s not in his right mind.)
The internet is underutilized for MLM recruiting because it seems like you have to be a computer genius or a web wizard to take advantage of it. (I’ve personally tried to sell real estate on the internet and I know how difficult it can be to maintain a website like that. Even managing a simple site can a sane person crazy.)

Many women who work from home are direct sales consultants. Some of the old standards in direct sales include Avon, Fuller Brush, Tupperware, Mary Kay and Watkins. If you are considering direct sales, it is very important for you to understand the benefits, drawbacks and skills necessary to be successful.

Low start-up cost. Compared to starting any other home business, signing on with a direct sales company is very inexpensive. Commitment. Decide if you want to be one of the 95% of independent consultants who quit within the first three months or if you want to be one of the 5%. Make goals and meet them. Hang in there when things get tough…for at least a full 12 months.
Which Company to Choose?
Find out how many years the business has been operational? Target your research to companies that have been in business for at least two years. Most do not make it that long.
How much does the starter kit cost? If you cannot afford the kit, you can borrow from friends or charge it. Or, you can move on to a company whose kit you can afford. If you really want to work with a particular company, but you cannot afford the kit, another alternative is to save up for it. Stay away from putting it on a credit card or borrowing money.
What is the monthly quota? Personally, I do not like to work with companies who insist that I purchase $100 worth of wonder juice each month. Before you sign up with any company, be clear on how much (if any) you are required to purchase each month.
What is the company’s reputation? Disgruntled former consultants will lay it out for all to see. If there are more negative comments on a network marketing forum or board, look elsewhere. Of course, most companies will have one or two negatives. It is the overall pattern you are researching.
Due diligence. Be thoughtful, critical and questioning when you research any direct sales or network marketing company. Ask questions. Insist on answers. Do not let your potential sponsor pressure you into joining if you have doubts or are just not ready. The prizes, income and general excitability of your sponsor may lead you to making a bad decision. The time to stick to your guns is before you sign up.
